Past Events Thank you for showing your support at our previous events. Vigil for the Earthquake Victims
To grieve for lives lost, to provide hope to those still struggling to survive and draw the world's attention to the work that still needs to be done, vigil nights were held by DIL Toronto and DIL Ottawa in their respective cities. On October 8, 2005 a 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck South Asia, destroying entire towns and villages. Due to the severe cold weather, lack of shelter, and lack of urgent medical attention, the tragedy wreaked by this disaster was of a devastating magnitude. DIL Ottawa - November 8, 2005
Parliament Hill, 6:00 pm Despite the bitter cold, the vigil was attended by almost 250 people. Most local TV stations covered the event and CBC had the vigil on the National News. ![]() Left: Ex-High Commissioner of Pakistan, Dr. Farook A.
