Ten years later, and with thirteen thousand students in its schools this year, Developments in Literacy is poised for a quantum leap, as outlined in its five-year strategic plan. DIL is now ready to launch an ambitious plan to expand its own schools, while remaining committed to the partner NGOs schools. To help finance this expansion, DIL is establishing The 10th Anniversary Fund.

One of the pivotal initiatives of DIL is to establish the Teacher Training Center. This will be its flagship facility, serving as a model for quality training of DIL teachers.

Other key initiatives in the next five years:

• Establishing formal volunteer programs for US and Pakistan
• Scholarships for graduating students planning to attend college
• Enhancing the government curriculum
• Adding libraries and computer labs to all schools by 2010
• Introducing sports and scholastic competitions
• Incorporating aspects of microfinance programs and health initiatives at DIL projects

The path to bringing about change in Pakistan's education system is complex.
